What is a Ronin in Royalty Ronin?

Also known as: what is a Ronin, Royalty Ronin member

A Ronin is a marketer who serves no master. The name comes from the masterless samurai. In Travis Sago's world, a Ronin partners with businesses to earn a share of sales from assets the business already owns, instead of taking clients, retainers, or orders. They do the follow-up the owner skips and collect a cut, on their own terms.

The word comes from feudal Japan. A ronin was a samurai with no master, no lord to serve, free to choose their own path. Travis Sago borrowed it on purpose.

A Ronin, in this world, is a marketer who refuses the client relationship. No retainers. No boss. No singing for supper. Instead of taking orders, a Ronin partners with a business that already has an asset, a warm list, an audience, an idle offer, and earns a share of the sales by doing the follow-up the owner never gets to.

The point isn’t the tactics. It’s the stance. You’re the chooser, not the chased. You bring something rare, the willingness to do the work for free and only get paid on results, and you do it on your own terms. That’s the rule the whole group runs on: Serve No Master.
